Still Life

Apples, lemons, plums in a simple space are old friends that call to me from time to time. Bottles, jars and pitchers have the same effect on me.

I find that the folds of cloth in a still life can often set a mood, with light and texture enriching the whole piece. It’s the light that falls on the objects that fascinates me. It can be a recurring image of a circle, a sphere or a mandala that means wholeness to me. There is no story or narrative the viewer needs to decipher as it can mean many things at once.

How solid forms blur and meld with the surface suggests that the light shapes the whole view. I call them my “fast still lifes”.
